New or Refurbished

Feb 2, 2009 12:43AM PST

Hi Everyone

I was wondering if anyone had any views on buying new or buying a refurbished computer?

Although I would love a brand new computer I am thinking of buying a refurbished system

because they are cheaper and seem just as good.

I came across a company who supply refurbished Dell, HP, Acer and Toshiba computers

called Euro PC www.europc.co.uk and the prices look very good. They also seem to have

the same warranty as new machines.

Does anyone have any views?

Cheers

James

Let's look at a minor component in all known laptops. The flat flex cable. Sorry for using wikipedia but it notes this nugget at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_Flex_Cable

"Life - 5 years"

There are other components that have similar life ratings so when you look at these refurbs be sure you dismiss the very old machines.

-> yes, I bought refurbs and they are doing fine. Let's you you are as lucky. In closing, if some unit gets a bad review for say battery time or burning your lap, a refurb will not correct that issue.

Do your research!

Companies that Resell old computers as refurbished are generally overcharging for yestertech when you can buy todays tech for the same price and get a better result.

Now refurbished from the computer maker on a new machin is another thing.

If want the deals know what they are going for on eBay (not the buy it now overpriced deals but real auctions) and then watch craigs list or the paper.

No thanks, saw a "REFURBISHED" desktop purchased from the net a while back, was a BIG mistake. Bite the bullet and do something new.

I have purchased referb. laptops from Lenove and am very satisfied. You can get much more for your money and the same guarantee as new from the factory. Laveno(IBM)Make some of the best laptops, that's why just about all of your big business use them. Go to their website,Lenovo.com and then go to refirb. laptops and you will have hundred's to choose from.
