New operating system for new computer

Aug 16, 2007 5:21PM PDT

i'm rebuilding my computer for the first time in years and i'm not as up on everything as i used to. I'm replacing my AMD Athlon 3000+ With an AMD 64 X2. Should i be buying the 64bit version of windows or will the regular 32bit version work ok? will i notice a difference. Any help would be appreciated.

At first I liked the 64 bit version.

Then the nightmare began. Today, drivers, antivirus and more are not as readily available for the 64 bit version. If you can find some assurance that such are going to be ready when you are the 64 bit version is nice but everyone I know has pulled out their Ultimate CD and gone back to 32.

Can XP Pro 32 take advantage of a Athlon 64? or is it a waste of power? should i go Xp PRO x64? thoughts

Yes to a point.

And XP 64 is worse that Vista 64 since the vendors are not going to invest is making drivers for a discontinued OS.

And I'm on my XP 32 bitter Athlon 64 laptop. Seems fine. The really nice thing about the 64 bit versions are the 4GB RAM issue but the downsides usually wipe people out.

I'm not happy with the situation either.
