If you can wait...I suggest you wait until the SP-510 is reviewed by one of the major reviewers.
It looks like Olympus has been busy since the SP-500.
The image stabilization is "digital image stabilization" which is not quite as good as optical image stabilization.
But they have already used it on 8 of their latest cameras. And reviews have been good for their digital image stabilization method.
The lens they are using on the SP-510 has been around for several years and is one of the best.
This has the potential to be a great camera to own.
Just need some details that a review would provide.
I am a new mom and want to start taking high quality photos of my baby. Ease of use is my primary concern. My husband, on the other hand, loves photographing landscapes and is more of an advanced amateur. So, we would like a camera with relatively high megapixels and more than 3X zoom with at least a 2.5 LCD. Our budget is <$500. I narrowed down our choices to Canon A700, Kodak Z612, and am still considering the H5. I just read the announcement today about the New Olympus SP-510 which has 7.1mp and 10x optical zoom with Image stabilization. This seems to meet all of my requirements and supersedes that of the others. Since it is a new model, there are no reviews yet.
Given the reputation of Olympus and your personal experiences, how do you think this model will perform?
