New Multimedia setup

by bschoos / February 9, 2009 3:03 AM PST

I am in the process of creating a media room. I am buying a new Plasma HDTV, an LG Bluray with the Netflix streaming, and a new Denon Receiver. My home currently has Cat 5e wiring thruout, but I need to connect ethernet to the rooms. Once this is done, I will be able to access the computer in the office. However, I would like to have this computer just be an office computer and have something upstairs that controls all the media. But, since I have a good receiver, a good Bluray player, I really want the computer upstairs to be something that functions as a DVR with ability to record 2 shows or watch 1 and record another. I have Comcast service for tv and internet, so would love to have the computer function as my Comcast box if possible. I want it to store all my music and photos to access on the tv and not have to use the office computer for this, so that I can not limit the office computer's memory and speed. I want it to access the netflix for streaming to the tv thru the bluray player. I don't do a lot of gaming and I don't need the sound cards, etc since I have a great receiver that has ethernet capabilities as well.
Is there some form of computer that does these functions without having all the other features of most media computers?
