New mouse not working correctly(s)

Jul 10, 2009 6:14AM PDT

When I purchased the product I expected it would either include a software CD with drivers as was the case with my previous Logitech Optical mouse or that I would just have to plug it into the same USB port. The previous mouse as did all previous mice worked simply by plugging it into a round port with a regular USB attachment at the back of the computer. When I plug in the new optical mouse by the same means it does not install and I get a non-functioning pointer on the screen. But when I plug the new mouse into a USB port on the front of the computer it installs and I get a fully functioning mouse pointer.

As using a USB port on the front of the machine is not particularly a problem other than it causes clutter, it seems that the new mouse should work when plugged in at the back. Any suggestions or comments regarding this matter?

I am using Windows XP Home with a Emachines model T3624. And software for the previous mouse has been uninstalled. So far Logitech Support is of no help.

Thank you

Charlie

Sorry no.

Not all mice can use the USB to PS2 adapters. Look for a rear USB port if there are any.

Sorry so long in responding back. Brains been out to lunch. Well, more than usual.

Guess I should have mentioned the new mouse is supposedly PnP and is intended to be plugged in at the back of the tower as per the mfr's instructions.

All of the USB Ports on the machine are 2.0 (or so the specifications indicate) And as far as I know the new mouse is USB 2.0 compliant though the the literature does not indicate one way or the other and "support" is of no help.

Reading your post again I find.

"all previous mice worked simply by plugging it into a round port with a regular USB attachment at the back of the computer. "

These round ports are not USB but PS2 ports. Some but not all USB mice could go into said USB to PS2 adapters.

If this fails you may have to take it to a shop counter and have them show you what to do next. Here I would remove the round port to usb adapter.

Thanks Bob. I never thought to consider this. When I get a chance I will pick up a USB splitter so I will have a free port on the back for the new mouse.

Thanks.
