New Monitor How-To adjustment

Hello. I just bought a new monitor (Acer G series) which is 18.5" (only 1.5 inches wider than my previous 17 incher). It is connected to an eMachines WINDOWS VISTA computer. Previously, I while I had some adjustment period to deal with on the old monitor (a Hanns G monitor which began flashing off; not maintaining image), eventually I got everything looking okay. Suddenly, though, I'm finding this new 18.5" screen TOO wide, and the print, etc, WAY too small. I tried lowering resolutions, and even tried to work with the 'aspect' vs 'full' on the monitor controls itself. But I'm finding that the previous websites I frequent, are not adjusting (especally gaming sites) to the wider scale).

I need help figuring out how to adjust my monitor to my previous website useage.
