new mom - wants a quick & small camera

Oct 4, 2004 5:02AM PDT

Hi,

I'm having such a hard time finding what I want!!!
Suggestions, please??!?!?

My current camera is about 4 years old and is horribly slow at the response time between when I click the button and when it captures the picture.

Here's what I need:
1. quick response camera to from time of click
2. small size, pocket type perfered
3. prefer 3.2 or 4 Mpixel
4. Just using this for point & shoot mostly.
5. Want to ake picts of my kid & family functions.
6. However I'd like to occasionally print my picts up to 8x10.
7. Oh and I'd prefer to spend less than 300, but could go up to 400.

Am I asking for too much???
THANKS!

Hi,

With all the great cameras on the market at reasonable prices, I think you'll be able to find what you're looking for. Do you have a movie camera? If not, then you may want a digital that takes nice mpeg movies also. And you may want to consider 4 mpixels as long as you're planning to occasionally have photos printed. I'm not techy when it comes to cameras, so I'll be watching for more replies to your question. I just bought the HP Photosmart R707 and love it.

Yes, I think part of my problem is that there are so many great camera's out there.... BUT.. I want one that is FAST!

I just can't find any information that tells me which one is faster at taking the picture from the time I push the button.

Are all basic snap-shot type camera about the same???

Camera suggestions

I strongly suggest the Kodak Easyshare CX7530, with a click-to-capture time of 1/10 seconds when prefocused, 4/10 seconds including focus time and a shot-to-shot time of less than 2 seconds. It's $299 and takes decent movies. I haven't used it but looking at sample pictures it seems like it gives you a lot of bang for your buck.

I just bought the Konica-Minolta X-31 and am very happy with it---small quick start, great pics. If you want to spend a little more and get sound movie clips the X50 is good too. Look at the Sony T1 also, a bit pricey though.

Try the Canon SD200

I just purchased an Canon SD200. It's the exact size of a credit card H & L, a finger width (0.8 in). Great 3.2 megapix, 2.0 LCD, fast!, great flash, 640x 320 30 fps video. SD cards though, not too bad.

It features a new Digic II processor for fast processing. you can go to http://www.dpreview.com for some more current info.
