Luckily,
(a) all laptops you'll find in the shops are suited for general uses, even the affordable ones
(b) the sales person in the shop not only knows the launch date, but he also knows the price
(c) most laptops you'll find in the shops are rather recently launched. If that's a criterion for you, ask the sales person the launch date of some models you're interested in.
