New mobo....processor

I'm fed up with buying premade pcs so am venturing out into building my own. I have a 2.8GHz pent 4 processor and dont really want to have to buy another if I can use that. However I do want to get the new 7800GT graphics card so I have to buy a new motherboard with a PCI-E slot. My question is...could I use the processor with this mobo? A friend told me that the new PCI-E compatible mobos only take a new type of processor so I want to know if he's right or if he's talking bull.
I'm looking at http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=95469
in particular. I'll probably upgrade my processor at a later date but cannot ideally afford it now. I also don't really want to use an AGP version of the card if there's one around (can't find one).

Anyone got an answer for me?

well it would help if u can find out whether your processor

In reply to: New mobo....processor

is socket 478 or lga775.

if it is a socket...then the cpu should have many golden looking pins...if it is lga775...it should only have these small silver dots all over the bottom of the cpu.

if there are no pins...probably lga775 and the processor would work fine
