It's only one of many. Where the cold caller "says" they're from, or what problems they "presumably" report, may vary. (See Tech Support Scams - Help & Resource Page ⇐ also one of many posts reported on the subject)
We can only hope folks aren't taken in by these scams...

I have recently received several calls (caller ID reported it was from the 869 area code but the number obviously bogus: 999-9999) that asked about my "Windows computer." The person with an accent (foreign to US English) said that they had noticed some unusually high download and other internet usage on my Windows computer and that they had a security fix for the problem. I immediately realized it was a scam and hung up. I'm posting here so that others can be made aware and hopefully not be taken in by it.
