New LCD Monitor problem

Nov 12, 2010 9:19AM PST

Bought my first LCD monitor, an AOC 2436Vh. The color varies a great deal from the top to the bottom of the screen. The desktop has a dark blue at the top, but it becomes quite light at the bottom. The task bar is hazy. If I bend my head way down, the haze goes away. If I back up to 3 feet, the effect is much less, but my old eyes can't read the text. The computer is a Lenovo K230,running Vista Home Premium and with just the Intel G33/G31 Chipset. Resolution is 1920/1080.

Did it come with a warranty??
Nov 12, 2010 11:12PM PST

Since you said it was new, I'll presume it was purchased from an authorized vendor. The best advise would be to return or exchange it. Don't mess with it in any way that can void that warranty.

It has a warranty, but how is it defective?

Could I have it set up wrong? I haven't been able to figure out the menu. It seems impossible to control the various items.

If your desktop didn't show those color and haziness issues

with the previous monitor, it shouldn't cause such with a new one right out of the box. You should need minimal setup to get an acceptable image but maybe some minor tweaking to get colors to your liking. If you wear glasses as I do, some aberrations at certain angles do occur due to lens diffraction. These usually amount to colors splitting apart at the edges but you shouldn't see any gradient affect. You do want to make sure you have the correct drivers for your video card and, better yet, if one is available for your particular monitor, you will be better off. Always use the native resolution of the monitor for best image quality. I suppose it's possible you could have a cable issue, video card problem, etc. But, if it worked well with a previous monitor connected to the same video port, drastic changes in the image are probably attributable to the monitor itself.

I have same problem..did you resolve
Dec 11, 2010 9:36AM PST

Hi eh16eh16
I have the exact same problem with the exact same model. I just got my LCD on 12/09, the AOC folks sent me a PDF file with manual. But I can't resolve this problem. I am waiting for a call back from AOC techs. But I assume I won't hear until Monday. Ihave an HP with Vista as well. In the meantime I was wondering how you made out or what did you do?? I got mine from Staples online. Thanks, Kevin

AOC Monitor

I ended up returning two of these monitors with this problem. It may have been an interaction with my plain Intel graphics card. I just got an LG 23" that is doing well.

I did the same
Dec 21, 2010 12:26PM PST

Actually I did the same, returned one and got another one. The same results and I returned the second one I had contacted AOC and they asked me to take a photo which I did and it was as clear as day with the problem. Never heard from them. I see now that Staples has discontinued the item. Thanks for getting back to me.
