New laptop.. What should i do?

Hi! I just got a new laptop: DELL INSPIRON 6000.
I was wondering.. is there any stuffs i need to know for it?
Like... safety tips.
clean ups?
memory?
etc...

common sense stuff

such as update windows. run disk defrag every 6 months. install antivirus protection, firewall, antispyware, adaware/spyware removal tools. do disk cleanup regularly.

some free software u might want to consider:
open office- free office suite
gimp- graphics editing
