General discussion

New laptop purchase possibly at Best Buy.

Aug 12, 2016 9:27PM PDT

Mr. Proffitt suggested I start a new discussion than continue asking more questions in my previous thread about problems I'm having with my 7 year old Dell Vostro 1510 laptop.

I have $300.00 USD in Best Buy gift cards my brother sent to me last December 2015 to buy a new TV. I had already bought a new TV before I received the Best Buy gift cards but since I still have then and now that my Dell Vostro 1510 laptop has started acting crazy; mainly the monitor is jumping all over the place; I'm seriously considering using these $300.00 USD in Best Buy gift cards to put towards purchasing a new laptop computer; I'd like to spend no more than $400.00 USD.

All I do on this current laptop is surf the web and some web based email. I don't store photos nor have I ever used the webcam or DVD burner which came configured with this laptop. Mr. Proffitt posted that I should not consider a Chromebook but I should instead purchase another laptop with Windows 10.

Celeron processors were ok but I'd be happier with an i3 or higher. I'm looking at Dell laptops since that's all I've had; should I be looking at other brands on Best Buy.com besides Dell or should I also check out Dell.com or Amazon.com to see what they have to offer and what other brands should I be looking at besides Dell? Also I'd like a laptop that has a removable battery.

Unfortunately Vostros are no longer sold by Dell; I would either have to move up to a Lattitude model or down to an Inspiron model. Recommendations would be appreciated and finally if I bought a laptop from Best Buy or from Best Buy.com or from Dell.com or Amazon.com should I purchase an extended warranty on a $400.00 laptop purchase or not?

Very average laptop as in you would approve or a very average laptop as in I need to continue shopping because I can find something better?

My approval is not required.

You've been shopping for years, have dozens of discussions about this so at this point it's time to fish or cut bait. It's an OK model, figure 2 to many years of use.

I have sped up my timeline to buy something new now that the monitor on my old laptop has started acting crazy. I don't need your approval; I was just asking for it since you ARE the Proffitt.

I thought you were shopping for years.

I could go back through your threads but to me, you need to decide when to buy and what. I don't mind at all going over all this but you've had better machines come up and then pass you by. So here you are, with a fair enough run of the mill laptop.

Buy or keep shopping.
