Question

New Laptop, Battery Issues.

Sep 4, 2016 2:41AM PDT

Hello everyone.

I bought a MSi GL62 6QF yesterday. I don't know what happened but it seems like there is something wrong with my batteries. It won't charge the first time at all. It was stuck at 91% and said "Not Charging." I tried to restart it and eventually it worked, but now it won't charge at 98%. I just bought it yesterday.

Many new laptops have a new feature called the battery saver. On mine its default is to stop charging at 80%. This is well discussed how this extends the battery LIFE SPAN.

I find that many new owners are blissfully unaware of this feature. Sadly the sellers and support might be as well.

You wrote ... "I tried to restart it and eventually it worked, but now it won't charge at 98%".

The answer to a FAQ at MSi reads:

'MSI laptops will only charge the battery if the battery level drops to 95% or below. This is normal behavior due to the design of the lithium-ion batteries. The IC inside the battery is engineered to charge only if the battery reaches 95% or below. This delay in charge will help prolong battery life.'
