NEW LAPTOP

I am in the market to buy a new laptop. I am considering a Dell product such as the Studio 1537 or a ThinkPad T400/T500. Any comment, suggestion, pros, cons or any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

What are you looking for in a laptop?

How fast? How portable? How heavy-ish? Will you travel a lot? OS of choice? Screen size? Durability? What will you do with it?

Hmmm...

My Dell Laptop is under warranty and Dell refuses to fix it. We are having a debate over what "external cause" means. They think that their policy dictacts. I think real world facts rule the day. They are winning and my laptop remains broken. My last Dell desktop died after 4 years. One of those years it was just limping along with several ports dead. I've never had a desktop quit on me that early ever.

Meanwhile I've been buying Old ThinkPads at garage sales (Dell after all has given me a reason to start kicking the tires on other things). They all just work. 5 years old and working great.

So between your two choices I would fully endorse the Lenovo ThinkPads. You can get the T400 with LED backlighting and you can't beat the keyboards.

If you do get a Dell I'd reccomend the ThinkPad clone. Lattitude is the line if I'm not mistaken. Wink
