I posted my issue a few days ago, unfortunately did not get any help and advice. I am not sure as to the reason. I thought of posing the question a different way in the hope of receiving some help.
The router seems to be working OK as my Macbook works fine, wireless.
My PC connected to the router with an Ethernet cable works, but very slow. Well unacceptably slow.
I have checked the Ethernet cable using a different Ethernet cable but no improvement.
I will be grateful for any help.
I had a network setup with a D-Link G604T router, connected with Ethernet to a PC, P4 ; XP home, and a MacBook connected to the same router through an Apple Express base station, working wireless. It all worked fine for years. A few days ago I changed my ISP (to talktalk in the UK),they supplied me with their new router HUAWEI HG520b.
I connected this new router the same way I had before, the speed of the broadband has dropped on my PC to an unacceptable level. It is like watching paint drying.
My Macbook is working fine from the same new router, through the Airport Express which is hard wire connected to the new router.
My ISP's tech adviser says there is nothing wrong with the service and the speed they can check is good from their end. Further, since the Macbook is working fine, though through the Airport Express, is a proof that there is some problem from router to PC,(which is not their job to correct). They can not help anymore.
Some bits I checked are:
DSL Line Speed up 448Kbps/down 1824 Kbps.ADSL Mode--G.dmt.Line Attenuation UP 31.5 dB/down63.5 dB. It does not make any sense to me but it might be important to someone in the know.
I have checked everything thinkable the connections, the Ethernet wire, there isn't any visible problem.I checked the speed on cnet UK site. I took three readings they turned up speeds of 52,1266,1395,if it makes any sense!
