new ipod, old power adapter

Can I use my new 4th generation ipod (purchased last week) with an older ipod docking station (with firewire lead)for playing new ipod and charging new ipod?

4th gen iPod Nano, as opposed to 4th gen (non-video) hard drive iPod? New iPods do not support firewire at all, which is why older 3rd party accessories do not work.
