New IE 7

Oct 27, 2006 4:20AM PDT

I have found a problem that I cannot fix, and so far Microsoft has not been able to either. When I go to File, Preview page,(before zi print) I just get a blank page. I cannot see page 1, page 2 etc. I tried their solution of redownloading Adobe Reader and the same thing is happening. I need some help here.. I have a Dell 4600, I am using XP home edition, and now have IE 7. This is the first bug I have run across so far.

Is this just with PDFs?
Oct 27, 2006 11:24AM PDT

Adobe Reader only comes into play when viewing PDF files, so is it limited to that or does this problem occur with all pages you view using Internet Explorer 7?

When I view a PDF document in IE7 the Print Preview option under the printer icon is greyed out. In Firefox 2.0 I have the option to preview but all I see is a white page with the headers and footers...the actual PDF document is not visible. The reason for this is while Adobe Reader does work with the browsers it is not completely integrated. Thus, if you want to preview you must save the file to your computer and open it with Adobe Reader. Alternatively there's always the mini preview of the first page displayed when you press ctrl + P for printing options.

Hope this helps,
John

IE 7 with print preview problems
Oct 28, 2006 12:00AM PDT

I am not real smart when it comes to computers, so I don't know what a PDF file is. I have tried to go to file, print preview here on this site also, just to see if it will work and it does NOT. So I guess it doesn't work at all. Hope this helps.

IE 7 with print preview problems

Also when AI press the control plus P, all I get is the real print box, where you push print or how many copies you want, not an actual preview of any pages.

OK...

PDFs are a type of document, similar to saying .doc files for Microsoft Word. In short, in order to view them you have to install software such as Adobe Reader, which you mentioned in your first post. However, based on your description you are dealing with normal webpages, not PDF documents, so Adobe Reader doesn't make a difference. (When you are viewing a PDF and go to print an different print options box comes up which has its own mini print preview. That doesn't apply to normal webpages though.)

My suggestion at this point would be to simply try uninstalling IE7 (Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs and uninstall "Windows Internet Explorer 7") and seeing if the problem remains after IE6 is restored. If not, I would then redownload and reinstall IE7 and see if that corrects the problem.

Let us know.
