New HD- OS problems

Oct 2, 2005 9:37PM PDT

I just installed a new HD in my Pavilion ZE4805. Using the HP provided Recovery disk I installed the XP os. 1st thing I went to the MS site to update the OS and was told I had 48 critical error!
Are there fixes (without BUYING a program)? Should I re-install? If so how?
Thanks

critical errors or critical updates?

Did it actually say 48 "critical error" or 48 "critical updates?" Critical updates are expected when using Windows Update for the first time after a fresh installation of Windows XP. If they are listed, go ahead and install them. They are free.

Yes, critical ERRORS.

Sounds like spyware or adware "threats."

Windows update does not send such a message. Did you disable the MESSENGER SERVICE?

If you saw a popup stating you had critical erors dont click on it.. You need to turn of messaging in administrator options.. This is nothing more than spam as far as I'm concerned within the OS..
