New Hard Drive, Windows Won't Load

Mar 15, 2004 7:44AM PST

I have a new hard drive, and I'm adding it to my computer. I put it in and hooked it up, now I'm trying to install windows XP (OEM) and it keeps trying to install it on the old hard drive which already has windows. It keeps saying there isn't enough space on the old one, and it doesn't even give an option to use the new one. I went into CMOS and the computer is reading that there is a drive. I don't know what to do though. I remember assigning a letter to the drives when I first got the old one, but I can't find where to assign a letter to this new one. Can someone help me out? Thanks,

Robert

Must use fdisk and format new drive for it to be useable

Fdisk is not needed with an XP cd available.

I would unplug the old drive and use the new drive solely. Jumper it as master or cable select while using a new IDE 80 wire cable. Boot the XP cd, partition, format and install Windows. Add the old drive back in, slaving it to the new drive and drop and drag files over.
