new hard drive for s55-a5164

it comes stock with a 1TB but was wondering if it was possible to get a 2TB or even a 3TB any help is welcomed.

That's a question for the shop.

Maybe there is a comparable model that has it built-in from the factory. Maybe they can easily replace it for you without voiding the warranty. Or maybe Toshiba has the option to make it according to your specification, like Dell.

Since, this is a laptop finding larger HDs is possible and provided they fit, it will work. Your OS supports larger capacity so that isn't a problem. Your real issue is finding a 2.5 size HD in 2 or 3Tb size. provided again, if you do and is able to fit in the area that the HD resides, will be a drop-in. Otherwise, start thinking about ext. HD for usage. The prime HD installed in the laptop maybe cooled but most are simple "convection type" installs and allows surroundings to cool the HD. Being nestled in a small area and then being a "stuffed platter type HD" doesn't always make for a good match in a well used laptop that will certainly build heat. Don't forget a "cooling pad" as part of the usage planned to maintain a well-cooled laptop.
