New Folder option missing

May 6, 2005 12:27PM PDT

The New Folder option under File and right-click in My Documents+ Pictures is gone. I am not sure how long it has been gone, mabey 1 month. I have a good virus scanner and run a full system scan about once a week. I update it 2-3 times a week. I use Ad Aware SE Personel and Spybot Search+ Destroy. I run these about once weekly. Can you tell me how to get the New Folder option back? ThankYou

Using the link you provided it says there is a patch. Then it goes on to say important note Oct. 2004. This is a new epidemic on Win ME(which i have) traced to nvidia display driver. The driver isnt a problem just that it deletes a registry key on install. He says he is investigating if the fix is generic enough to incorperate into patch. Suggests using a restore to roll back just before the driver was installed. My latest nvidia driver was installed on Oct.5th 2004. 6 months has gone by and apparently he has not come to any conclusions. I would rather not roll my system back 6 months. Do you think i should go ahead and use the patch? If it messed something up i could use a restore couldnt i? ThankYou

Your decision.

I can't make this decision for you. I only know the issue and what I used to fix it.

Are you saying that you personally have used the patch? What OS are you using?

Yes.

Used to fix it on Windows 98, ME and XP. First hand.

But if you are looking for some ironclad warranty it won't screw up a system, I can't offer such. Microsoft's answer is a little harsher. "Format and reinstall your OS" seems to be too much work for this easy fix.

Can I ask why you are hesitating?

hesatating

Dont know why i hesitated, but if someone has used it with good results that is good enough for me. I e-mailed Compac with it a few days ago and they said to remove and re-install IE but that didnt do anything. Their other option was to re-insatall ME but that seemed a little drastic. I will try it( I downloaded it yesterday and i will post here whether it worked or not. I would not hold anything against you if something bad happened. I realize that happens sometimes. Will get back to you. ThankYou Derf

It worked!! Thankyou for the help. I saved the file so if it happens again when i update the nvidia driver i will have it ready. I think i will e-mail nvidia about this problem. Mabey they would fix their driver files so they wouldnt mess with part of the regestry they have no business being in anyway.
