New email provider ...

May 19, 2017 5:11PM PDT

After almost 20 years my email provider wants to start charging me a monthly fee. I am now looking for alternatives or maybe pay the monthly rate. I prefer to have a couple email accounts, 1 for household accounts and another for non-household stuff. I am not a fan of monthly payments, I would prefer free, but I do realize that security could have a price tag. With that in mind, what options do I have?

Yahoo and AOL

Those also allow access using Thunderbird email program, among others. In fact, Verizon bought out AOL and all email accts with Verizon have been switched over to AOL.

yahoo, gmail, outlook, and email. of the four, yahoo is the only one I use the pay (yearly) service but they are also free. That may change since verizon is taking them over.

Does your isp have an email option?
Mine does it's part of the package.

I tend to recommend not getting the isp's email service. if the isp merges with another, if you get mad at them and quit, if you are a deadbeat, if you move and forced to get another isp, then you will have to get another one and it is a major pain to change the email address with all your family and friends, with all your accounts, with all everything.

Nothing says you have to put all your eggs in one basket.

Use your isp for one type of mail and other mail servers for different stuff.
