An edit button would be really good. Any progress on that?
Anyhow: "sole dual-driver" should read "some dual-driver"
So, it looks like unfortunately my Shure SE530's are suffering from a case of water ingress (dry ears thoroughly after showering, y'all balanced armature earphone owners). As luck would have it, it's just out of warranty.
My other earphones are the Ultimate Ears UE-11, which replaced a UE-10 last year. Before the SE530, I had the E500 as my main generic-fit earphone and before that, the E5 was my generic-fit of choice.
It would be easiest to get another SE530 especially as it fits me very well but it's far from perfect, especially in terms of sound. The primary complaint overall is that the trebles are more muted than I'd like. That said, the SE530's are pretty old now and I'm wondering if there is anything genuinely better from the newer players.
I'm wondering what else I should get. I obviously don't want anything worse than the SE530, but credible comparative reviews are hard to come by - 'reviews' such as Jasmine France's CNET gushfest over the SE530 for example are all too common. The reason I settled on the Shure is that it has been the best compromise I've come across so far in terms of physical attributes (short-cable for remote use, good/reasonably secure fit, tip flexibility) and sound (easily beaten out by a number of $200 headphones, but acceptable for portable use - and without the frequency response / distortion compromises evident in single-driver and sole dual-driver armature phones).
Of the companies which have been involved in IEM's for a while, Ultimate Ears generics are out - the larger bore size over Shures don't agree with my ears. Etymotics are out as well - I really don't like their approach to 'neutrality' by overdriving a single armature driver to distortion-causing levels, which the tin-eared misinterpret as 'detail'.
Suggestions would be appreciated, along with your relative impressions of the recommendation vs the SE530 if possible.
