New e-Business Help

Jun 15, 2010 8:45AM PDT

I am trying to start a new online business and I am having some trouble figuring out where to start. The business itself is a remote consulting and data management firm I was planning on doing business exclusively by email and phone, except for extraneous circumstances. So far all the research I have come up with is more relevant for a physical office or product. I know I have to file for local and federal taxes, but I don't know what else to file, apply for, or register with.

On the same note; since I will be the only employee, but I may expand in the future, I was wondering what the best business structure would be, ie. L.L.C. Sole proprietorship, etc.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

If you are starting a new business than you must check out the rules and regulations in the government office where you have to pay a certain amount of money to get those detailed forms. So in future you may not get in trouble even you can take help of local lawyers to get know about all the procedures.

Online Business Location
Jul 3, 2010 5:15AM PDT

I'm not a lawyer, but I think if you are running an online business, the physical location that you are running your online business from (for example, your office or home office) is considered the business location. So you will need to get a local business license from your city that you are located.

If you choose to do business under a business name instead of your name, and you decide to choose sole proprietorship or general partnership type of business, then you will need to file a fictitious business name with the county that you are located.

If you decide to do business as a LLC, Corporation, then you will need to file an Article of Incorporation (for corporation) or Article of Organization (for LLC) with the state that you are located.

You will need to consult your tax accountant to choose the best business entity that is going to suite your business, for example: LLC or S Corp or C Corp, or Sole Proprietorship, General Partnership, or Limited Partnership (LP)
