new drive please help

Dec 28, 2003 9:14PM PST

I am running win98 SE and need to install a new harddrive(samsung 80GB). I have tried rebooting with a startup disk, then fdisk but get the message no fixed disks.
I have tried going into the bios and doing auto detect but pc just hangs when it get to the hard drive.
I can set the hard drive to a removable drive when booting from my original harddrive and it works ok and will format but as soon as i try to put it to a harddrive the computer just hangs.
Any ideas folks? help greatly needed

If there isn't a Read.me text file on some media that came with the drive that explains the procedures, then the Samsung's User Guide at this link should explain everything.

This sounds like an older machine whose Bios will not recognize large disks. What size hard drive was the previous drive?

Master/slave relationship!

There are a set of jumpers in the back of all HDDs; my guess is that you need to make the new drive a 'slave' leaving the original as 'master'.
