No P4 plugs into your motherboard. Even if it did... the speed will be about 1/2 the GHz in benchmarks. I have a few i845 systems as proof.
The new P4 CPU consumes more power, makes more heat and may require the ATX12V connector your supply doesn't have. Your old case is likely to not be able to exhaust all the new heat.

Hi.
I have a Dell 800MHz P3. It's now 4 years old. I want to upgrade it to atleast 1.5 GHz. Do i need to buy a new CPU and a new motherboard? What would u suggest, a pentium 4? I'm trying to get the best for the least money. What about Celeron with high Gigas? Do i need extra cooling and power supply?
