New computer windows 7 / Old computer info

Feb 7, 2010 7:28AM PST

I purchased a new computer Windows 7 and have a old XP computer 5-6 years old. I would like to put all info on my new computer and discard old computer. How do I do this? Please explain step by step to this rookie. Janis

Several ways to do it.

Physical:
- via USB stick
- via CD or DVD (burn to it)
- via external hard disk
- via a direct cable (Ethernet) connection
- via a direct cable (USB) connection
- via web storage

Logical:
- from your current backup (should contain everything you don't want to lose)
- if you don't have a current backup, find all files you want to transfer and copy them by means of the media you chose from the list above, using either My Computer or the backup software of your choice
- use a dedicated program like Windows Easy Transfer (see http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/features/easy-transfer.aspx)

Totally your choice here. Find someone to do it for you if you feel you can't do it yourself.
