New Computer Problems

Mar 14, 2004 11:42PM PST

I just bought a new Sony PCV-RZ56G and the problem I have is unique to me: When I press the "on" key, the computer comes on but doesn't post to the monitor. If I hit the "on" key and then the F2 key right after, it boots up. I've taken the computer to two different places including the place I got it and it works fine, monitor and all. When I get it home and set up, the same problem occurs. It's been suggested there's something going on with the wiring in my condo that's causing this. Could this be this case and, if so, will it hurt the computer to just leave it on all the time?

Never heard of any power related problem (such as wrong voltage or wrong frequency, what else?) that could cause this. Try it with a friend, relation or family in stead of just in two shops.

It won't hurt the computer to be always on (like the forum's computers), but it will hurt your electricity bill. So let me ask: will it hurt you or the computer to press f2 at boot time.

Interesting to know: how did you find out about F2. What does the manual say about the purpose of F2?

I found out about the F2 key from the Sony service center I called trying to sort this problem out. I solved the problem by putting the computer in the hibernation mode when I'm not using it.
