Question

New computer, not functioning as it should

Sep 16, 2015 9:31AM PDT

I recently bought a new computer after having some crappy computer from 2009.
I was really stoked to play all these games that my previous computer wasn't really capable of handling, however... I've gotten some issues playing video games.

Warframe runs like **** for me when there's a couple of enemies, which I find weird since my computer should be able to easily handle that game. The same goes for DotA 2 when a lot of stuff is happening, generally any game where a lot of stuff happens my computer begins to lag. The game stutters and I get weird audio cutouts.

I am able to run a game like MGSV fine without any lag (which I think is because not a lot happens around you??) but I can't even watch 720 60fps videos on YouTube without it stuttering.

I have no idea what could be causing this issue and much help is appreciated...

Clarification Request
Why that virtual CDROM?
Sep 16, 2015 9:42AM PDT

That's rarely stock and many are trojans. The YouTube issue is all about the network. Even my old core2duo laptop with 4GB RAM and Intel 4500MHD graphics was OK pumping 1080p to the HDTV over HDMI so your machine is 10x that old laptop. I'd see if local videos play OK with VLC.

DotA at high settings does drop frame rate when a lot is going on. This is not new. I'm not duplicating the web on that. Try tweaking like the others do. Example.

There are more for other games.

Hmm...

I don't use that CDROM anymore, I removed it the other day because it doesn't even work (It's very old.)... I use a USB one now, sorry for not updating.

I have yet to see if videos play OK with VLC.
I honestly don't think it's my network since I've never had issues with it before, and YouTube videos ran fine on my other computer.

Tweaking my settings on DotA does not make any changes. I've tried even the lowest settings and it makes no difference, and I honestly think that tweaking the settings would not improve it too much. My old computer ran DotA better than my new one which is weird because it shouldn't!

Thanks for the fast reply though.

Time to talk to the maker?
Sep 16, 2015 12:16PM PDT

While I have lost count of bum Windows installs where someone slapped on Windows and didn't carefully install drivers and apps in the right order, there's nothing here telling me more than it's a warranty issue.

It's subpar in more than one area so back it goes. Not much has changed in how to get Windows all setup after the Microsoft install of the OS is done. Unless a member tells me their exact steps I stick to the generic install of Windows, then motherboard, audio, video, LAN, WiFi and helper apps like Intel RST and what else?

Time to start again.

I'll try to install Windows again and install my drivers in the correct order. Will report back when I've done so...

Unsuccessful

(Sorry for the very late reply, I have been busy lately)

I reinstalled Windows on a clean hard drive and installed my drivers in the right order. Unfortunately this did not seem to help at all. The same issue still occurs.

Could it be that I have faulty computer parts?

One way to tell.

Swap the part that doesn't work.

However, games seem to arrive with the settings over the top. That is, if they sense some GPU that might give you 10 frames a second on Ultra, they set it so the detail looks great. Gamers then dive in and optimize.

but is it updated
Sep 22, 2015 2:41PM PDT

the thing about computers and reinstalling is windows is not immediately updated. It may take a few days unless you do it manually. Also, your computer by default is indexing your drive, that could also take a few days depending how full it it.

Already up-to-date

My Windows has been updated to the latest version, I reinstalled all my drivers and such the day after it was suggested.

I have a 3TB drive and not even a single TB has been used, you'd think that after 6 days my computer would've indexed my drive already...
