so you are looking at reinstalling all applications and then copying your personal data to the new machine. Since you have all that personal data on your external hard disk, copying them over is as easy as plugging the disk in, opening Explorer, and copying them.

The applications will need to be reinstalled. Office may be a problem. You could try uninstalling Office from the Vista machine, then installing it from the Office CD to the new one, and see if it will activate.

iTunes will need to be installed on the new system, and so will your anti-virus and other security utilities.
