Question

New Computer Help?

May 10, 2015 4:38AM PDT

I am looking for a computer that has Intel and has 6-8gb of ram and around 3ghz of processing and I have found a few but I have seen the Intel turbo boost and it says it can go up to 2.7 on some, does anyone know any that go to 3.0 or more that are within the 3-400 dollar range?

Clarification Request
Why the 3.0 GHz?
May 10, 2015 4:47AM PDT

That sounds like an outdated software requirement. With the changes in CPUs that do more with each clock and more than one core, such are often outdated requirements. Tell more.

I don't see a complete NEW PC for that price. You may have to look at used but let's clear up where that 3.0 came from.

Example. http://computers.woot.com/plus/envious-hp-envy-desktops-all-in-ones?ref=cnt_wp_3 and it's CHEAPEST refurb is over your budget.

Desktop or Laptop?

I have seen some quad core laptops sell for that amount, but mostly used.

why is it so important?

Is it past the 3.0ghz?

I checked it out and it did not look like it had my request of 3.0ghz, could you please inform me on this if it is or has the turbo boost technology

3.0GHz P4? Certainly faster than that CPU.
Jun 3, 2015 6:19AM PDT

I see I supplied a link about the MHz myth. Maybe you need to read more about how MHz and GHz aren't what sets the speed of a CPU. Not only the clock rate but what a CPU can get done with each tick.

So would that computer run a game that requires a 3.0ghz processor?

This is the first time I've read about the GAME
Jun 3, 2015 9:11AM PDT

Games often require more than GHz for gaming. A GPU for example.

Then we have this:
"Our tests demonstrate fairly little difference between a $225 LGA 1155 Core i5-2500K and a $1000 LGA 2011 Core i7-3960X, even when three-way graphics card configurations are involved. It turns out that memory bandwidth and PCIe throughput don't hold back the performance of existing Sandy Bridge-based machines. "
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-4.html

So if if we think about it this i5 is servicing 3 GPUs at 3.3 GHz. It's a safe bet it can game at 2GHz but here we are with a dozen posts and now we know there is some GAME that must be playable.

The game

The game is Euro Truck Simulator 2

Even they don't ask for 3.0 GHz CPU.
Jun 3, 2015 11:53AM PDT

This game however asks for a certain or better GPU.

"
Windows XP/Vista/7/8, Dual core CPU 2.4 GHz
2 GB RAM, graphics card with 256 MB memory
(GeForce 7600 GT-class equivalent or better)
"

OK, let's compare a better than the 7600 to the Intel HD 5500 GPU that the laptop above has.

It looks like the i5 machine should game. You have to be careful about game settings.

Game/ Computer
Jun 3, 2015 12:17PM PDT

CPU: Quad core CPU 3.0 GHz
CPU Speed: 3.0 GHz
RAM: 6 GB
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
Video Card: GeForce GTX 760-class (2 GB)
Sound Card: Yes

this is what they recommend for the game and is not the minimum, do you know any computers of this spec that are in my price range?

Does not match up with the software maker's list.

Since you are I are reading different specs, I can't help you. It took many posts to know you wanted to play this game. And even after a few checks, it's not acceptable.

I think you must go to a store and demand they supply what you want for your price?

Recommended System Requirements

Windows 7/8, Dual core CPU 3.0 GHz
4 GB RAM, graphics card with 1024 MB memory

But no GeForce GTX 760-class (2 GB)

Good luck on your quest. 500 is a bit slim for a gamer machine.

What did you find out there?

Stuck
Jun 3, 2015 11:21PM PDT

It's not that I am stuck on anything I just want a computer to run what they recommend for this game, and in my price range, so you know of any?

Look how many posts
Jun 4, 2015 12:04AM PDT

And it took this many to

a) learn that GHz isn't the measure of a CPU.
b) the game you want to play.

Your turn. Go research if folk are playing that game on that machine. Maybe another member will step in here but I understand folk have a hard time with the MHz/GHz MYTH area.

Are we done with the CPU?
