New Computer Case

May 11, 2009 12:57PM PDT

I was curious what needed to be taken into account if I wanted to replace my Dell computer case with something different. Strictly for appearance.

I have a Dell Dimension 4700 pentium 4 CPU, 3.4GHz. If more information is required I can let you know.

Also, if I did want to upgrade the motherboard and processor, how do I know where to start as far as manufacturer and whatnot.

Obviously I'm very new at all of this, so please bear with me.

Thanks in advance

Cases are pretty much generic . . .

as far as the mountings are concerned. They all have the motherboard mounting posts in the same place, hard drive and optical drive bays are built the same, power supplys will have the same mounting screw locations. So your only choice is the case design. You'll need to take a close look at the plug in parts such as front mounted USB ports and the power switch and LEDs. These are also pretty much generic and should be labeled.

If you replace a motherboard and processor count on replacing the RAM. This can be as expensive or more than a complete new system.

get the transparent cabinet
May 21, 2009 3:22AM PDT

Hey why dont you try some good lighting and some transparency in ur cabinet? It totaly increases the feel and look the robotic look get a white cabinet take it to a shop and cut one side evenly in a designer square shape, then place your motherboard inside please be careful about choosing the cabinet as per your motherboard. OK now take a blue LED place a 100 ohm resistor in series then plug it in the USB port via a USB port which draws 5V. And place the LED into the cabinet you are ready to go place 5 different color LED inside it will blow your mindset about looks.
