Odd thing today?

I see a floppy drive. No new machine I own has one and good riddance. But for the rare occasion I use an USB floppy drive. And given I used it 5 times in just one week over the past year maybe I should have ignored it.

Last month I opted for (USD here) refurb HP d4999t (quad core with VTx), added some ram from the old machine, installed Windows 7 Pro and used my old monitor. I did get a newer 1GB Nvidia GT 220 which seems to do fine on games.

That's less than half your budget and plenty of bang.

Thanks for the reply.
U never know when youre gunna need a floppy.
I doubt you can get far with a GT 220 at 1680x1050 on high settings in any modern game.
My current Core 2 Duo with a 8800gt can barely break playable framerates in most modern games.

In any case i have the money to spend just wanted some opinions if there are better choces i could be looking at.

Everything on the list seems to be okay (from a fellow gamer's POV); but I would probably check often to see if NCIX has a sale on combo-deals in the near future, also (occasionally) I've seen that they offer the core i7 920 DO Stepping quad core on sale, if you want to go that route.

But for $1500 CAD you can build a pretty killer system yourself, instead of one their (partially configured) systems...

As for a floppy drive, I've got 4 or 5 kicking around my place, I'll send you one free Wink
