When faced with disparity in nomenclature in the cabling of the new board/cases you, as the PC designer and builder will rewire as need be using your best effort to match USB signals to/from board to the front panel.
An example of such a mismatch of names that are equivilant are:
- GROUND, GND, G, and -. All can mean the ground of the signal.
- VCC, +5V and simply +. All can mean the 5 Volt USB supply.
- USB+, D+. The + signal of the USB data line.
Similar for the minus signal of the USB line.
NO DOCUMENT EXISTS TO SHOW A STEP BY STEP TO WIRE SUCH UP. It is expected you will figure it out.

OK guys, here's the deal. I used to have a Sony Vaio PC. I still do technically...but I bought a new case. So I gutted the Vaio, and surprisingly I was able to use the same motherboard, hard drive, DVD-ROM, CD-ROM, Floppy, and video card in it. Now the only problem I have with it involves certain things coming out of the case itself.
Refer to this great PDF manual for my motherboard, the Asus P4B-LX:

Case-mounted USB
OK, my case came with two USB ports on the front. Inside each one has four small cables. They're labelled VCC, D+, D-, and Ground. Strangely, in the manual for my motherboard (refer to page 39) USB23 has 9 pins while my port in that same area has 15 instead. So it confuses me how it they would be arranged. Naturally, these USB ports refuse to work.
AUDIO gone
Though this is pretty strange, the embedded audio chip in my motherboard stopped working, entirely, after I made the transfer. My PC absolutely refused to acknowledge the existance of sound (even the Sound control panel said there were no devices installed.) Coming out of the case is a series of 7 wires, each saying to the effect of left in, left out, right in, right out, microphone in, microphone 2, ground. This is all pretty straightforward until I refer to the motherboard manual for the Integrated audio (page 41, Figure 2-27) where the pin names don't have anything to do with the names on the wires.
Lights on front
Now this isn't much, but, the case also has two big lights on the front that I want to use for cosmetic purposes, and I've led myself to believe that these lights are used for the IDELEDs (wires labelled H.D.D.) which I'm sure I put in the proper slots on the motherboard. These don't work either.
Any help with any of these problems would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking your time.
