New CANON & NIKON digital SLR's coming soon!!

Jun 4, 2005 6:31AM PDT

Does anyone know about this. Went to my local camera shop and guy said to wait until end of June... Canon & Nikon are coming out with new digital cameras to complete with their already great line-up.

It's got to be true... why would a salesman tell me "wait"..

Does anyone have any info on this? I can't find anything on either of their websites.

Perhaps, but the word I have is that Canon is done for now.

Nikon may need to respond to the Canon 20D and Rebel XT, but both of these just came out. Therefore, I would not expect new Canon stuff. Perhaps he meant at the 'point and shoot' level?

We were talking SLR's and I was looking at the Canon Dig. Rebel XT.

He might just be thinking about Nikon's stuff... I wonder if it is the D70s that he was referring to. Because that's not yet on shelves yet is it?

I was planning on buying the Canon EOS Digitl Rebel XT, but if new cameras are coming out soon, I would wait. What should I do? Is Nikon or Canon making new cameras?

New Canon

I read on some Canon forum that Canon is releasing a new version of the 20D.

But it is a specialty camera, made for celestial photography. The price was about $500 higher than the regular 20D.

If there are any new cameras coming soon. But if there is only an upgrade to the Canon 20D, which I already can't afford, then I won't wait. I think I am going to buy the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT or the Nikon D70/s.

Can only speak for the Digital Rebel XT

I havent utilized the Nikon but I can say this:
I had the Canon DigiRebel (3 times actually) and finally upgraded to the DigiRebel XT.

I am SO much happier with it.
For one you get 2 more Mp(8 vs 6)
But it also has the b/w and filter effects for PREVIEW. Unfortunately it will not automatically do this. I was surprised after taking a b/w series that they were all in full color. But I was kind of happy about that because I was able to get the lighting right by seeing the b/w preview but then I had the option to produce identical in full color.

I noticed an immediate improvement in the camera from when I first picked it up. It felt more solid. The colors seemed more true to life as well.

My favorite feature was the flash vs shutter control (I no I completely killed that from a "technical" sense.) But its great effect for portraits taken in evening settings.

The software it comes with it much better than Photoshop's raw exposure controls. I have used photoshop for many years and was always sold on the raw feature but not I have switched to canon's. My only complaint of that is you can only batch process per folder you cannont batch process an entire series of folders.

Back to the camera - I would definately reccommend the Canon DigiRebel XT as an option.
