New Camera needed

Thinking of buying a Nikon S6000. I need it to take pictures of the kids still and playing sport. I also want the bigger zoom. Is this a good choice, should I buy the S8000. I looked at both but saw no real difference. Or is there an other brand in this price area that is better. Thanks you for any help.

Nikon S series

If you are interested in either the S6000 or S8000 you should look at the newer S8100 first.

The S6000 and S8000 have 14.2 megapixels which is too many pixels for such a small sensor assembly.
The overcrowding of the sensor will result in more noise.
That causes the camera maker to use more aggressive noise reduction methods which results in loss of detail.

The S8100 has 12.1 megapixels and it uses CMOS sensors instead of CCD sensors.
CMOS is faster than CCD and your shot-to-shot time will be better.

thank you

Thank you, looked at it and it looks like a real nice camera. There are so many brands out there, trying to decide that nikon is the one to go with.
