New bottom-right animation in video version

Aug 4, 2010 7:06AM PDT

You know how the video version of the show has had a static Cnet logo in the bottom left? Now it also has an *animated* graphic in the bottom right that continuously flips around to show the various Facebook and Twitter profiles for people to follow.

I understand the desire to get more followers on your social networking pages, but I found the animation extremely distracting- to the point that I wasn't paying attention to what was being said. The motion kept drawing my attention away and made my thoughts focused on how mad the animation was making me rather than on the show itself. I've gone back to the audio version.

What does everyone else think?

I forgot to include a possible solution for the distraction problem. Kill the animation, but show the Twitter handles for each host in their lower third, *statically*. Molly's camera would show @mollywood, Rafe's would show @rafe, Jason's would show @raygun01, etc. At the end of the show, or maybe when not showing just one individual, you could show the profile(s) for the show.

The key to this idea is to show the information in a non-animated way, because the animation is too distracting.

No, it's not old news. In today's episode, Molly referred to it as new as of today.
