New BD-P3600 Blu-Ray question

Apr 9, 2009 4:53AM PDT

1- I just bought a BD-P3600 Blu-Ray player to go with my LN46A650 TV.
There is a wireless LAN adapter (WIS09ABGN-G)with it. In the connections section of the user manual (pg. 32), it says "You must use a wireless IP sharer".
What the heck is a wireless IP sharer? I've never heard that terminology before and evidently wikipedia hasn't either.
I have a Linksys wireless G router in my home, how do I get the signal to the player?
2- I went to the Samsung BD-P3600 page online and there is NOTHING in the support pages yet for the player.
Thanks for any info.

New BD-P3600 Blu-Ray question
Apr 9, 2009 7:44AM PDT

Lumpy95,

Welcome to the forum.

1. A "Wireless Sharer" is better known as a wireless router. I apologize for the confusion; as it does have an illustration, but the term itslf may have been overlooked in the translation of the manual.

2. It's a new product that just recently hit the shelves, and I've spoken with our support team who puts the information up on the page. They will be adding support for that as it becomes available. It shouldn't be too long, but I don't have an exact timeframe.

In the meantime, if there are connectivity issues that we can assist with, please post them here. If you'd like immediate support to get it hooked up, you can call 800-SAMSUNG as well.

Thanks for the clarification.
Actually the picture of the "sharer" in the manual looks like a wireless adapter of some sort, not at all like a router.
I had a feeling that it might be a router but had never heard that term before.
I guess I will try to figure out the installation info in the book before calling support.

Samsung Blu-Ray Wireless Dongle problems
Apr 29, 2009 1:35PM PDT

So, after spending hundreds of dollars on this new BD-P3600 from Samsung, I was trying to connect it. (By the way, it could use an extra HDMI connector, 1 for the TV, 1 for the receiver.) I think I was having one problem after another. I was trying to connect to my wireless network. Yes, I was wondering what a wireless IP sharer was for a minute or two before I guessed they meant to say router. I was having bad issues trying to connect the wireless. I tried typing the password a dozen different ways, UPPERCASE, lowercase, old passwords, yet nothing worked. I rebooted my router, nothing. I reset my router, nothing. Then I spent some time on the Samsung website, and came accross the following page: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber/popup/pop_troubleshooting.jsp?ia_cd=03020100&model_name=BD-P3600. On that page it says, and I quote, "you MUST change your routers name (SSID) using your PC.
" What the ... You mean I have to change my SSID on my router, which means I have to change all the laptops, game adapters, access points and every other device that accesses my router, just becuase Samsung has a Firmware problem. Come on, why do I have to be the one to fix the known defect that is Samsung's fault. The easiest thing for me to do, is to just take it back to Best Buy, and buy a different brand (which cost less) and then get another wireless access point. (Linksys WGA600N, $84 from www.newegg.com, $90 from www.tigerdirect.com, $100 from Best Buy.) At least that way, I will not have to reconfigure all the devices in my house.
I did check online, and there is not a firmware update yet. Samsung, if you are reading this, plenty of people are going to have problems connecting, and you might want to fix your manual to say the issue, but better yet, fix the issue.

Wireless LAN Adapter
May 7, 2009 1:29AM PDT

I purchased the WIS09ABGN adapter for my BD-P1600 Blu-ray player.
The link you identify was extremely helpful as it helped me to successfully connect to my wireless router.
The unit searched and correctly identified my access point. As such, I was not faced with the prospect of having to change my SSID.
I did not have to do any update to the firmware that came with my BD-P1600 which I purchased at the end of March 2009.
Good Luck!
