It's been a day since I posted my question; nobody has any advice on this or did I post my question in the wrong forum? I'm now experiencing another annoying problem; since late yesterday it's taking long for web pages to download; that blue wheel spins like crazy and the message says connecting.
The only way I've been able to connect is to move my pointer over the wireless icon at the bottom of my screen; click on it; hit disconnect; wait a few seconds then click on connect; it will connect fast after doing that. Does that sound like I need to buy a wireless extender to boost my signal? My connection's security type says WPA2-PSK; the radio type says 802.11n.

I finally got a new Dell laptop; an Inspiron 15-3000 Series which I hooked up yesterday for the first time using a new DSL modem AT&T shipped me last week; a Netgear 7550 modem with built in router. I got to put the laptop to some good use for the first time last night but experienced a lot of signal disconnects.
The new AT&T modem is in a bedroom on the other side of my living room wall; a distance of about 20 feet. Do I need to purchase a range extender to help prevent future signal drops and does it matter which brand that I buy since the modem I received from AT&T is a Netgear model?
