New Apple ID

I now feel the need to shift to a new Apple ID. I've been using the same email for buying stuff online, paying utilities etc. and also for the Apple ID.

I have now created a new email that I would like to keep only for syncing my iPhone contacts to the Gmail address, and working as my Apple ID.

What are the risk in changing to a new Apple ID?

Any reason why you will suggest against doing this?

I don't have any data in iCloud.

In case, I do change to a new ID, is there a sequence I should follow while signing out of my iPhone and Mac?

Beware of an issue that stops me from buying more Apple gear

I can't remove my old iPhone 5s from "Find My iPhone" so it's essential unsaleable. There's that plus any apps/tunes/other items you have on your account may vanish.

I suggest you think long and hard about this.

by turning it off on the old iPhone and exiting from iCloud.

I guess you tried that

I didn't tell all.

Apple is asking a security question that I forgot the answer to. There appears to be no way to reset that as of late last year. I guess I'll have to try again soon before the 5s is completely dead. It works fine but I can't set it up due to this lost information.

Called Apple last year and got no where. The stories about Apple support are very believable to me.

PS. This issue had lead me to forget about buying any Apple product till they fix this issue.

Oh my, that's awful.

Me, I have an iPhone 8 and a new 2017 Air.

I don't use Apple Music, and these apps use iCloud sync - Notes, Safari, Calendar, iCloud Drive.

I will be horrible if something goes wrong simultaneously with the Notes on both my Mac and the phone! Or, even the bookmarks.

I don't have any older devices that will hold me back from shifting to a new ID.

And now that you've nicely shared your experience, I'll make sure to make a mental note of my recovery questions.
