New AMD Gaming Rig.. Love any advice I could get!

by gynthazi / October 29, 2005 1:31 PM PDT

Hey guys,

I'm building a new system.. ordering the parts on 11/1 and just wanted to get any last minute help/suggestions...

A Few things to note before I list the gear...
1) I already got the monitor..on the way now, its a dell 2005fpw
2) Not ordering an OS..using xp pro
3) not ordering speakers.. using boston acoustics for now, but mostly use a headset(which I am ordering) because I have a daughter, and playing late night..the only time I really have time to play, I need to be quiet.

Now, going to ask a couple questions that i'd love to get some answers to.
1) Should I go with the hdd's I listed below? or am I better off ditching them and getting 2 3g/s hdd's and raid-0 them?
2) Should I stick with the 7800gtx KO edition? or should I just get the regular evga edition for 110 bucks less and get two of them for sli? was thinking I might get 1 KO and get another KO when the price goes down...

Thanks again for all the help in advance!

Hey man, I'm planning to get a new rig too...
by ericlsy / October 29, 2005 3:05 PM PDT

How's it going? I'm also planning on getting a new gaming rig. I've seen you've gotten the eVGA 256-P2-N529-AX Geforce 7800GTX 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card. That looks sweet!! Very expensive tho.. To rich for my blood. Check out this case, I think you might like it as I'm planning to get it. http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=81800#

Anyways here are the components that I'm getting(planning anyways)...

Antec P180 Innovative three-layer side panel case
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Dual Core Processor
Maxtor DiamondMax 10 SATA/150 250GB 7200RPM 16MB Buffer (OEM)
Samsung TS-H552U 16X DVD+/- 5X DVD+R DL DVD Writer (Black)
Antec TruePower 2.0 TPII-430 Power supply
Leadtek A400GT GeForce 6800GT
OCZ PC-3200 DDR400

I hope you guys can give me some advice too. I'm also planning on a 256mb SLI graphics card but I don't know which one to get. I need something that's not too expensive (need one that's the best bang for the buck)!!

graphics card
by gynthazi / October 29, 2005 10:57 PM PDT

Nice choices overall I think if your on a budget.. I just want to get something that I wont have to upgrade for a few years (one I have now is 4 years old, but costed 3k when I bought it)...

As far as the graphics card, best bang for the buck right now is the 7800gt's.. not the gtx's.. still clock better then 6800 ultras, and are around 400.. if you need to go less, stick with the 6800gt's (bfg makes a good o/c'd one)..

Hope that helps!

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
