New 64 bit PC that will run Alpha 4 V8 program

by BillR / November 22, 2009 4:52 AM PST

I have an Alpha 4 Version 8 program that I use daily in my business and I am in need of a new PC. What do I need to do to run this Alpha program on a new PC with Windows 7 that is 64 bit rather than 32 bit. Thanks for the time and assistance. Bill

XP Mode

Well, just try to install it and run it as usual. Be sure to buy Windows 7 pro, enterprise or ultimate, that way if the program doesn't work you can install Windows XP Mode and then install the program in XP mode and you have no worries. I have found very few things that worked in xp 32 bit and didn't work in 7 32 bit. It's the jump from 32 to 64 that's dangerous in my opinion.

So far.

I've yet to have to call up XP MODE. I'm running a new dv6-1261sb so it is an option. Just that nothing has made me go there.

Have you tried Alpha 4 yet?

Alpha 4 on 64 bit PC

Hello, Yes I tried the Alpha 4 on a friend's new PC that is 64 bit and it would not work. I don't think that it is the Windows 7 that is the issue. I think it is the 64 bit that does not want to run the Alpha program.

Then be sure your machine has XP Mode.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
