Netzero issues

Apr 15, 2008 12:50AM PDT

Long story short, I chose Netzero for my ISP. I cannot get any DSL
locally and the local provider charges $19.95 for dial up or DSL.
I chose Netzero for price and I hoped some speed. Anyone help with
the following. I installed the Netzero using their provided CD.

1. Why can't I set up my dial up using the Windows set up. I use the
phone numbers (local for me) provided by Netzero but I can never get
a connection.
2. I can only get a connection when I use the dial up provided by
Netzero. That dial up sends me to their home page which has news,
weather, ads, ads, etc, etc. and that takes time. I have google
set as my home page but it will only go there after I allow Netzero
home page to load and then change to my home.
3. When I'm ready to disconect the usually toolbar connection status
icon in Windows is not available(I checked several times in set up to
show this icon). I have to disconnect using the dial up window that
Netzetro installed. After I click on disconnect it takes quite a while
to disconnect and I finally have to right click on their icon in the tool bar and choose close.
Any way to get my dial up to go straight to my home page and not Netzeros or get my Window XP dial up set up to work?

Don't work!!
Apr 18, 2008 10:13AM PDT

I uninstalled the Netzero and set up dial up using Windows.
The dial up worked fine but instead of logging on I got a
message that internet access was denied. Tried many times.
Message said I would have to install latest Netzero software
to log on. Reinstalled Netzero and connection was made but
with the same issues I had to start with.

NetZero has some highly proprietary software, like AOHell. You'll have to call them.

Here's what I do

I know your problem and this is how I correct or side-step it. I do use Juno, but it is the same process. Allow Netzero to start and load its toolbar, it should then launch the browser. That's where I stop it, I use Mozilla Firefox. I kill the IE browser as that's the one they default to(you can't defeat it). I then load the Firefox and it goes to my selected homepage. You can do the same for IE, just kill the Netzero IE when it starts and then start the IE found on your desktop, edit your desktop IE to be the homepage you want. Hope this helps... -----Willy Happy

I bypassed the netzero software by putting username@netzero.net and my password in the Windows dialup network connection settings. If I used just my username or username@netzero.com, it didn't work. As an example, if your netzero username is shaggie, then you would use shaggie@netzero.net in the dialup settings. shaggie or shaggie@netzero.com wouldn't work.

Netzero changes the local phone access numbers occasionally and retires some of the existing ones. Their software would need to be used occasionally to see the latest functional local phone numbers.
