IF you're network is also supporting Win machines that MAY be where the problem is.
We used to have the same problem at work. When the Techies fooled around with the network updating things OR restoring things they always forgot that they needed to reapply setting for the Macs also. We would have to call them to fix the situation.
I don't recall WHAT the fixes were, but, if you're running both types of systems, start there.
Mac forums used to have some GREAT Posts on networking. Try finding that if you're pretty much on your own in finding the problem. One guy had several Posts about networking in general and networking between the two systems.

Hi All,
We are having issues in our office with all Mac users running v10.6.8.
This problem started two weeks ago (17th of may). I think there were some updates that week from apple but nothing that should effect the OS.
Description:
So basically when the system starts up and auto connects to any network it then freezes the computer (giving the hatted spinning colour wheel). NOTE we have multiple networks with two separate ISP's running from different routers which both result in the same error. This is an issue encountered from all users running this version.
All user computers run fine at home. We have contacted apple and the ISP's but have as of yet not been able to sort this issue out.
I was wondering if anybody has encountered similar issues in the last few weeks?
Hypothesis:
Virus on the network only affecting this version of mac OS
or
Networks need update to support MAC os
Looking forward to hearing any thoughts or if anyone has encountered similar issues.
We are a SME in Australia (Melbourne)
