networking winxp and vista with a cross cable

Aug 29, 2010 11:41PM PDT

I have a winxp and vista laptop. I am trying to connect both together using cross cable.

I configured a static IP 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 respectively for each system. I have also made sure that they are on the same workgroup.

Vista laptop can ping winxp laptop but winxp laptop cannot ping vista laptop.

I tried using the same OS i.e winxp it work just fine.

Pls can anyone advise. Thanks

Same Account?

I have never used a cross-over cable, but I suspect the same applies for home networking using a router.

Each computer on the network needs exactly the same user account, same username, same password, to set the network up.

The other difficulty could be firewall blocking.
