Question

Networking Problem With Ethernet on 2 Devices

Apr 10, 2018 9:08AM PDT

Problem;
- Connecting both my laptop and desktop through ethernet, after a certain period of time/during heavy bandwith usage my internet completely shuts down and resets itself (comes back online 2 minutes later)

Attempts to Fix/Resolve/Isolate ;
- Updated drivers
- Changed router and modem
- Isolated connection to modem only through both devices
- Changed outlets used for power

Additional Information ;
- If laptop is on WIFI and desktop is hardwired through Ethernet i do not receive an internet shutdown/reset regardless of how much data is being uploaded/downloaded simultaneously, only occurs when both the laptop and desktop are hardwired through ethernet.
- I do not receive any incoming or outgoing packetloss or latency spikes during the disconnect, it's an immediate internet shutdown and reset
- All wires have been re-wired in effort to fix

Laptop is using Windows 10, desktop is on windows 7. This problem only occurs when i hardwire my laptop through ethernet, this does not occur if the laptop is on wifi.

Please post suggestions, will try and respond/apply fixes and report back.

Connect the Desktop to another port on the router

Try connecting the Desktop to another port on the router and see if it works. Make sure the ip addresses of the connected Ethernet port and the Desktop are on the same range.

Sorry, I meant connect the laptop to another port of the router and see if it works. As the last post, the Ip range will have to be the same on all interfaces.
