Networking Notebooks

Is it possible to interconnect two notebooks using a crossover cable (with RJ-45s at each end) and be able to access the internet line that is connected to one of them without using a modem? I have succeeded in linking them via wireless but cannot connect to the internet on both with one line. Please advise.

ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) for your OS on how to to do that.

Very long ago (back in 1999), when we only had dial-up this was the only realistic way to share Internet. Now we have all have broadband and a (wireless) router (at least in the USA) we connect the router to the broadband modem and share Internet that way.

I read your message, but I deleted the original. No need to link your commercial website, that's why. For the benefit of other readers, I'll repeat the content here.

"Someone recommended the crossover solution on my site, but it couldn't get the internet hooked on the second machine even after I merged the networks."

Apparently, you didn't do exactly what Microsoft says in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306126
Try again. Or get broadband.
