Networking

Jul 25, 2004 4:49AM PDT

I have connected my desktop to my laptop by a wireless link. It works great. However I have two questions:

1. Is it possible to run a program on the desktop from the laptop without reinstalling it on the laptop?
2. Can I receive and send e-mails from the laptop through the desktop Outlook Express? I don?t want ?two letterboxes? for the same e-mail account.

The OS on the desktop is 2000 Pro and on the laptop XP Pro.

1. In about 1995, Microsoft introduced a new Windows that had a feature called the registry. You get to install most software since that and DLLs are not found when you just run some .EXEs today.

2. The answer here is "unlikely." While I know some solutions, the answer is too hard for people to setup. Take no offense when I write that if you ask, then no. Those who could setup a mail server would do so?

For a workaround, look up TIGHTVNC on Google.

Bob,

TightVNC was not the easiest thing to set up, the documentation could be improved for the non professionals such as myself. However it now appears to work a treat. This was sent from my laptop using my desktop account. Small problem with scrolling but I'm sure I can get over this.

Thanks for your advise, great service,
