Networked broadband help needed

Apr 19, 2005 9:41AM PDT

Can anyone help me?
Recently I was roped into setting up our work place network, which quite proud of myself I have done.
We have 2 x P43.2ghz running XP Pro and 1 x P3 933ghz running win98se they are joined using cat5 cable and a 5 point bio-directional switch.
My problem is this. One of the P4's is connected to the net via an internal modem and shares this with the other 2, we have the go ahead for broadband, what will be the best way to connect this?
Do i continue to make the connection via the 1 pc and share it, or do I connect it to the 5 point switch (for a single port modem) or do I connect a modem (4 port) to each individual pc?
As I have been winging it so far any suggestions will be highly appreciated.
(p.s wireless is out of the question)

Thanks

Router!! Not always

Depending on the type of DSL Modem you are going to receive, a router is not always the right choice. Some DSL modems are also routers. Using a router in this situation can cause a network bottle neck. Also if you are currently using a switch, then I take for granted that you have static IP's configured in each PC. With a DSL Modem that is a router or placing a router, you should change these to obtain IP automatically. Check with your ISP to see what modem they are sending you to see if it is also a router. If so the switch will work fine. ( better than a router in this case)

Correct we are running with a static IP's in each of the Pc's. The ISP has a modem with router, I have changed the pc's to run with the "obtain IP automatically" and they are working great.

Thanks for you guidence
